Nafplio, also known as Anapli, is considered today as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Greece.

Some of them:
PALAMIDI CASTLE : Overlooking the city, the castle was named after local hero Palamedes, who had fought in the Trojan war.It was originally built by the Franks and was completed by the Venetians in the late 16 thcentury.The Turks controlled the castle until the liberation of Greece in 1821. You can reach the castle either by climbing the 999 steps or driving by the road that also leads to Karathona beach. Inside you will find the Church of St. Andrew and the cell that Theodoros Kolokotronis was imprisoned in.
BOURTZI : The island with the fortress at the port of Nafplion, built in the late 15 th century by the Venetians. Under the Ottoman rule it was used as a prison. Bourtzi is now a tourist attraction and you can visit it with a small fishing boat, paying a small fee.
BAVARIAN LION : The statue was built by Ludwig of Bavaria, father of King Otto, Greece’s first king, in memory of the soldiers who lost their lives, not in battle, but in the typhoid epidemic that struck Nafplio in 1833.
1st GREEK PARLIAMENT : Built in the early 18 th century by the Turks as a mosque. After the liberation of Greece it became the first parliament of the country.
ARSENAL : The old arsenal in Syntagma Square, built in the early 18 th century by the Venetians, now an archaeological museum.
CHURCH OF SAINT SPYRIDONAS : In one of the many picturesque streets of the city, is the church of St. Spyridon. The first governor of Greece Ioannis Kapodistrias, was assassinated outside the church entrance You can still see the remaining bullets in the wall of the church.
LAND GATE : Right across the street from the court of the city, you will find the Land Gate, which was built in the early 18 th century and was the first entrance in the old town of Nafplio.
Outside of Nafplio, but not far away, you can find ancient Tiryns with the Cyclopean walls.The ancient theater of Epidavros is approximately a 20 minute drive from Nafplio.At the city of Argos, 10 minutes from Nafplio, you can visit the Castle of Larissa, the pyramid of Greek, the Ancient Theater and the Ancient Market of Argos. About 10 minutes out of Argos, you will find the ruins of Ancient Mycenae and the Mycenae museum.
